About Ectatomma tuberculatum (Olivier, 1792)
Ectatomma tuberculatum, scientifically described by Olivier in 1792, is called kelep in the Qʼeqchiʼ language. This is a Neotropical ant species that belongs to the subfamily Ectatomminae. It is common throughout the Neotropics, and its range extends from Mexico to Argentina. This ant species acts as a host for Ectatomma parasiticum, a closely related social parasite. Ectatomma parasiticum is the only parasitic species currently known within the subfamily Ectatomminae.
