About Echinopogon caespitosus C.E.Hubb.

Echinopogon caespitosus, commonly known as bushy hedgehog grass or tufted hedgehog grass, is a grass species native to southeastern Australia. It is most often found in disturbed areas. The original type specimen for this species was collected at Katoomba railway station in 1931. Charles Hubbard published the species description in Icones Plantarum in 1934. This grass can grow up to 1.5 metres tall, and is easily recognized by its dense, bristly flowering head. Its specific epithet, caespitosus, comes from Latin and means tufted. Two varieties of this species are currently recognized: Echinopogon caespitosus var. caespitosus and Echinopogon caespitosus var. cunninghamii.
