About Ebrechtella tricuspidata (Fabricius, 1775)
Ebrechtella tricuspidata exhibits sexual dimorphism in body size and appearance. Adult females reach a body length of 5–6 millimetres (0.20–0.24 in), while males are smaller at 2.5–3.5 millimetres (0.098–0.138 in). In females, the cephalothorax (prosoma) is light green, and the legs are also light green. The abdomen of females is whitish-yellowish, and sometimes bears indistinct reddish markings, which usually consist of two broad bands connected at the rear. Males have a distinctly different appearance: their cephalothorax is light brown with a bright median stripe, as are their first two pairs of legs. Their bottle-shaped abdomen (opisthosoma) is usually pale green, with dark brown markings on the sides. This species is widespread across the Palearctic realm, including Europe, Turkey, the Caucasus, and the area from Russia to Central Asia, China, Korea, and Japan. It does not occur in Great Britain. These medium-sized crab spiders live in dry meadows and sunny forest edges, where they wait for prey while well camouflaged among flowers and foliage.
