About Dyspteris abortivaria (Herrich-Schäffer)

Dyspteris is a genus of moths belonging to the family Geometridae. It was erected by Jacob Hübner in 1818. The genus is monotypic, meaning it contains only one species: Dyspteris abortivaria, which is commonly known by the common name the bad-wing. This species was first formally described by Gottlieb August Wilhelm Herrich-Schäffer in 1855, and it is found in North America. The species got its common name 'bad-wing' because its forewing is much larger than its hindwing, which often makes it difficult to position the wings correctly for spreading when preparing specimen displays.
