About Dypterygia scabriuscula (Linnaeus, 1758)
Technical description and variation of Dypterygia scabriuscula (also known by synonyms Dypterygia pinastri Linnaeus and Dypterygia tripterygia Esper) (38 f): Forewings are brown-black. The inner margin is narrowly pale, and the postmedian space below vein 3 is whitish, with veins and intervals marked pale olive brown; pale brown suffusion often also occurs around vein 6. A fine black streak runs from the base below the cell. The lines and edges of the stigmata are black. The inner line has four outward angles, with the angle below vein 1 being long and acute. The outer line runs obliquely outwards to vein 5, forms a projection between veins 4 and 5, then curves inward to the middle of the inner margin. The claviform stigma is long and narrow; the orbicular stigma is oval, flattened, and sometimes touches the large reniform stigma. The terminal area has black streaks between the veins. The subterminal line is only visible below vein 2, and the anal angle beyond this line is blackish. The hindwing is fuscous. The larva is red-brown, marbled and dotted with darker shades. The dorsal line is finely white with brown edges. The lateral lines are broadly pale, dark-edged along their upper side, and crossed by a series of oblique brown stripes. The head is brown with black streaks. The wingspan of the species is 32–37 mm.
