About Dufourea ligulata (Körb.) Frödén, Arup & Søchting
Dufourea ligulata is a saxicolous (rock-dwelling), foliose lichen that belongs to the family Teloschistaceae. German lichenologist Gustav Wilhelm Körber first formally described this species in 1862, classifying it as a member of the genus Physcia. Patrik Frödén, Ulf Arup, and Ulrik Søchting transferred the species to the genus Dufourea in 2013, as part of a molecular phylogenetics-based restructuring of the family Teloschistaceae. This lichen occurs in Australasia, where it most commonly grows on coastal rocks. The lobes of its thallus measure 5–10 mm long, and are typically longer and narrower than the lobes of other Australian xanthorioid lichens. These other species include Xanthoria streimannii, Xanthoria parietina, Xanthoria filsonii, and Xanthoria elixii.
