About Dubautia scabra (DC.) D.D.Keck

Dubautia scabra is a shrub that grows with circular rosettes of leaves, and it sometimes grows in a mat-forming habit. Its flowers are white. This species can bloom at any time of year, but it blooms most often in summer. It grows at low to moderate elevations, ranging from 75 to 2500 meters, on the islands where it occurs. It commonly grows on barren lava flows, but it can also grow in wet tropical rainforests. The subspecies Dubautia scabra subsp. leiophylla is most often found in the wet tropical rainforest habitat.
