About Dryopteris clintoniana (D.C.Eaton) Dowell

Dryopteris clintoniana (D.C.Eaton) Dowell, commonly known as Clinton's wood fern, is a fern of hybrid origin native to the northern hemisphere. It is a fertile hexaploid that formed as a distinct species through chromosome doubling. Its parentage is a hybrid between tetraploid Dryopteris cristata and diploid Dryopteris goldieana. Its range extends farther north than the range of either of its parent species. Like D. cristata, this fern grows in wet habitats.
