About Drosera pygmaea DC.

Drosera pygmaea DC. is a carnivorous, rosette-forming biennial or annual herb species. It is native to Australia and New Zealand. Its specific epithet, pygmaea, translates to "dwarf" from Latin, a name that refers to the plant’s very small size: mature plants reach only 8 to 18 millimeters in diameter. It produces small, pale flowers at the tips of stems that are 1 to 3 inches long. Drosera pygmaea is perhaps the most widely known species among pygmy sundews. In New Zealand, D. pygmaea grows in a wide range of habitats ranging from coastal to subalpine areas. It needs open ground to grow, as it is easily outcompeted by taller plant species.
