About Drosera platypoda Turcz.
Drosera platypoda, commonly known as the fan-leaved sundew, is a tuberous perennial carnivorous plant species in the genus Drosera. This species is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. Its native range spans from Manjimup south-west to the area around the Scott River, and east to Cape Riche. It grows in winter-wet sandy soils within heathland habitats. The plant reaches a height of 15 to 20 cm, produces a basal rosette of leaves, and bears alternate cauline leaves along its stem. It flowers in October. It was first formally described by Nicolai Stepanovitch Turczaninow in 1854, and the species scientific epithet honors this author: Drosera platypoda Turcz.
