About Drimia capensis (Burm.f.) Wijnands

Drimia capensis (Burm.f.) Wijnands is a geophytic perennial plant. Its flower stems can reach 1–2 meters in height. It has a relatively large, partially subterranean bulb. Its grey leaves are long, ranging from 30 to 50 cm, and are shaped like a rounded lanceolate and held erect. The leaf margins are slightly undulating. Flowers grow on a long, slender raceme, blooming from November to March, after the leaves have already dried. The flowers are a pale yellow-cream color with green midribs. Its seed capsules are trilocular. This species grows across the southern Cape of South Africa. It is found from Namaqualand in the west, south into the Overberg region, and east as far as Port Elizabeth. It prefers to grow in reddish sand, clay, and limestone-derived soils.
