About Drasteria grandirena Haworth, 1809

Drasteria grandirena, commonly known as the figure-seven moth or great kidney, is a moth species in the family Erebidae. It was first described by Adrian Hardy Haworth in 1809. This species is found in North America, ranging north to Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia, south at least to Georgia, and west at least to Arkansas. The wingspan of Drasteria grandirena is about 35 mm. In California, adult moths are active from March to August. The larvae of this species feed on Hamamelis virginiana.
