About Dracophyllum rosmarinifolium (G.Forst.) R.Br.

Dracophyllum rosmarinifolium, commonly called inaka or common grass tree, is a shrub species that is endemic to the North and South Islands of New Zealand. It belongs to the heath family, Ericaceae. This plant grows in subalpine and montane gullies, cliffs, plateaux, valley floors, and ridges, and reaches a height between 0.3 and 1 m (1.0 to 3.3 ft). It was first formally described by Georg Forster in 1786 under the name Eparcris rosmarinifolium. Its specific epithet rosmarinifolium refers to its similarity to species that were previously placed in the genus Rosmarinus. A 2017 assessment using the New Zealand Threat Classification System classified this species as "Not Threatened", with an estimated total population of over 100,000 individuals.
