About Dracophyllum menziesii Hook.fil.
Dracophyllum menziesii Hook.fil. is a shrub that grows 0.5 to 1 meter (1.6 to 3.3 feet) tall. Older sections of the plant have grey bark, while new growth has brown bark. The bark is generally smooth, though it may occasionally become fragmented at the base of the plant. The leaves of D. menziesii are concentrated at the ends of branches, similar to species in the plant family Bromeliaceae. Leaves are attached to the stem via light brown, leathery sheaths that measure 1โ2 by 1.7โ2 centimeters. These sheaths are ridged, taper to a point, and have smooth, membrane-like edges. The main blade of the leaf is also leathery, measuring 9โ22 by 0.9โ1.7 centimeters (3.5โ8.7 by 0.4โ0.7 inches) and shaped like a triangle. Both leaf surfaces are hairless and marked with deep grooves or ridges. The leaf edges are cartilage-like and bear 20โ32 teeth per centimeter. The leaf tips are thickened and end in a distinct sharp point.
