Dracophyllum kirkii is a shrub species that is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It belongs to the heath family, Ericaceae, and grows on mountain slopes and bluffs, reaching a height between 20 and 140 cm (8 to 55 inches). This species was first formally described by Sven Berggren in 1877. Its specific epithet, kirkii, honors Thomas Kirk, a New Zealand botanist. A 2017 assessment conducted using the New Zealand Threat Classification System placed this species in the "Not Threatened" category, with an estimated total population of over 100,000 individuals.
