About Dracophyllum acerosum Berggr.

Dracophyllum acerosum is a species of shrub or small tree that is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand. It was first formally described by Sven Berggren in 1877. Its specific epithet, acerosum, which means needle-shaped, refers to the shape of its leaves. It is a member of the heath family, Ericaceae. It grows on mountain slopes, ridge lines, and hillsides, and reaches a height between 1 and 2 meters (3 to 7 feet). A 2017 assessment carried out using the New Zealand Threat Classification System classified this species as "Not Threatened", and estimated its total population to be over 100,000 individuals.
