Doxocopa agathina (Cramer, 1777) shows sexual dimorphism in wing coloration. Males have bright blue or purple wings, while females have darker wings, usually in shades of brown. Females also typically have a diagonal orange band across their forewings. Both sexes have a wingspan of approximately 50 millimetres (2.0 inches). Like other species in the subfamily Apaturinae, Doxocopa agathina has a green proboscis.
