About Dorcadion scopolii (Herbst, 1784)
Adults of Dorcadion scopolii measure 9–11 millimetres (0.35–0.43 inches) in length. Their antennae and legs are typically black, and their pronotum is strongly transverse. The outer shoulder bears a spine, and its stripes are nearly equal in width. Males have longer antennae than females. Adult Dorcadion scopolii feed on grass blades, chewing them from the base. Females lay eggs in grass tufts. The larvae feed on fibrous grass roots before pupating. Adult beetles emerge the following spring, any time between late February and May, depending on temperature.
