About Donkia pulcherrima Berk. & M.A.Curtis

Climacodon pulcherrimus (also published under the scientific name Donkia pulcherrima Berk. & M.A.Curtis) is a tooth fungus species in the family Phanerochaetaceae that causes white rot. It was first described as a member of the genus Hydnum by Miles Berkeley and Moses Ashley Curtis in 1849. In 1962, T. L. Nikolajeva transferred the species to the genus Climacodon, its currently accepted genus placement, though research published in 2007 suggests the species should actually be placed in a different genus. It has a wide distribution across subtropical and tropical regions, where it grows on decomposing hardwood and causes white rot.
