About Donacaula forficella (Thunberg, 1794)

Donacaula forficella is a moth species in the Crambidae family, first described by Carl Peter Thunberg in 1794. This species has been recorded in China’s Heilongjiang province, Europe, and South Africa. Its wingspan measures 25–30 mm. Both male and female individuals have pale ochre forewings. A distinct oblique line is present in the apical area of the forewing, though this line can be very faint or nearly invisible. Specimens with this reduced apical line are classified as the form uniformata, first named by Dufrane in 1946. The larvae of Donacaula forficella feed on plants from the genera Carex, as well as the species Glyceria maxima and Phragmites.
