About Dombeya burgessiae Gerrard ex Harv. & Sond.

Dombeya burgessiae, common name rosemound, is a widespread flowering plant species in the family Malvaceae. It is native to seasonally dry regions of tropical Africa, and has been introduced to Pakistan, Assam, and Trinidad and Tobago. It is a variable shrub or multi-stemmed tree that grows 2 to 8 m (7 to 26 ft) tall. People use it for its fiber to make ropes and baskets, its wood to make bows and tool handles, its edible pith, and as friction sticks for starting fires. It is occasionally planted as an ornamental. Dombeya burgessiae is documented as a larval host plant for two Hesperiidae species: Eagris sabadius (Grey, 1832) and Abantis pillaana (Wallengren, 1857).
