Dolichophis jugularis (Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of snake. In terms of physical description, adult individuals are black along their dorsal side. Juveniles of the species are tan, marked with small darker blotches. This distinct juvenile color pattern fades and disappears entirely when the snake reaches three to four years of age. The geographic range of Dolichophis jugularis covers Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malta, and Syria. This snake species occupies a wide variety of habitat types, including forest, shrubland, grassland, and freshwater wetlands, and can be found at altitudes up to 1,000 meters (3,300 feet). For reproduction, Dolichophis jugularis is oviparous, meaning it lays eggs. The typical clutch size for this species ranges from 7 to 11 eggs per clutch.
