About Dodonaea humilis Endl.
Dodonaea humilis Endl. is a dioecious, spreading shrub that typically grows no taller than 1 m (3 ft 3 in). Its leaves are imparipinnate, measuring 9โ26 mm (0.35โ1.02 in) long, and carry 2 to 14 glabrous leaflets. Leaflets are triangular or egg-shaped, with the narrower end oriented toward the base; they are 3โ8 mm (0.12โ0.31 in) long, 2โ7 mm (0.079โ0.276 in) wide, and have 3 to 7 teeth near the tip. The leaf petiole is 1โ4 mm (0.039โ0.157 in) long. Flowers are arranged singly or in cymes at the ends of branches, with each flower borne on a pedicel 1.5โ4 mm (0.059โ0.157 in) long. Each flower has four lance-shaped or egg-shaped sepals 1.8โ2.8 mm (0.071โ0.110 in) long, eight stamens, and a glabrous ovary. The fruit is an oblong capsule 4.5โ7 mm (0.18โ0.28 in) long and 4.5โ6 mm (0.18โ0.24 in) wide, with four lobes and a dense covering of glandular hairs. This Dodonaea species grows in mallee scrub on limestone or chalky soils, found on the Eyre, Yorke and Fleurieu Peninsulas in southern South Australia.
