About Dodecatheon frenchii (Vasey) Rydb.
Primula frenchii, commonly called French's shootingstar, is a flowering plant species that belongs to the Primulaceae family. This species is native to the central and southern United States, where it occurs specifically in southern Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Alabama. It grows in moist, shady habitats, including ledges near streams and areas under sandstone cliffs. It was first formally described in 1891 as Dodecatheon meadia var. frenchii Vasey. In 1932, the taxon was raised to the status of a full species under the name Dodecatheon frenchii (Vasey) Rydb. It was then transferred to the genus Primula in 2007.
