About Disclisioprocta stellata (Guenée, 1857)
Disclisioprocta stellata, commonly known as the somber carpet or bougainvillea looper, is a moth species that belongs to the family Geometridae. This moth can be found naturally across sub-Saharan Africa, the islands of the Indian Ocean, and extending from eastern Canada (specifically Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick) south through the United States, Mexico, the Antilles, the Bahamas and Bermuda Islands all the way to Bolivia and Brazil. It was intentionally introduced to Hawaii in 1993. The wingspan of adult Disclisioprocta stellata measures between 25 and 33 mm. In North America, adult moths are active all year round in southern parts of the region, while they are only on wing from July to November in northern parts. Recorded host plants for the larvae of this species include Amaranthus, Proboscidea, Bougainvillea, Boerhaavia erecta, Pisonia aculeata, and Mirabilis jalapa.
