About Dioptrornis fischeri Reichenow, 1884

The white-eyed slaty flycatcher, scientifically referred to as either Dioptrornis fischeri Reichenow, 1884 or Melaenornis fischeri, is a small passerine bird. It belongs to the genus Melaenornis within the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. This species is native to the African highlands, ranging from Ethiopia and Kenya through Rwanda to eastern Zaire and Malawi. One recognized subspecies, M. f. toruensis, is found in Rwanda and Burundi, and it has an inconspicuous eye-ring. Its specific epithet was chosen to commemorate the German explorer Gustav Adolf Fischer.
