About Dicerca divaricata (Say, 1823)

Dicerca divaricata, commonly called the flatheaded hardwood borer, is a black beetle species belonging to the subfamily Chrysochroinae. It is native to North America. Adult individuals of this species measure between 15 and 22 millimetres (0.59 to 0.87 inches) in length. This beetle feeds on a range of hardwood plants, including various maple species such as sugar maple (Acer saccharum) and red maple (Acer rubrum), as well as American elm (Ulmus americana) and plants from the Cercis genus. Adults of Dicerca divaricata fly during May and June.
