About Dianthus caespitosus Thunb.
Dianthus caespitosus Thunb. is a spreading or tufted herbaceous perennial that grows up to 40 centimeters tall. It bears linear blue-grey leaves measuring 60 millimeters long by 5 millimeters wide along its stems; leaves below the plant's crowns are usually deciduous or absent entirely. Its inflorescence is simple, and occasionally sparsely branched. The inflorescence stands roughly 20 centimeters above the main leaf tufts, and has smaller pairs of leaves, 5 to 15 millimeters long, scattered along its length. The flowers are pale yellow to cream in color, around 25 millimeters wide, and bloom from spring to summer, between September and January. The petals, measuring roughly 15 by 20 millimeters, are always somewhat toothed or fringed, ranging from finely dentate to crenulate. The calyx is elongated, 40 to 70 millimeters in length, and bears 3 to 4 pairs of bracts. These calyx bracts are elongated acuminate with sharp points, and only sometimes have faint, narrow papery margins.
