About Dianella longifolia R.Br.
Dianella longifolia R.Br. is a rhizomatous, perennial herb that forms tufts reaching around 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) in height, with stems measuring less than 10 cm (3.9 in) long. Its leaves are folded lengthwise and grass-like, 20โ80 cm (7.9โ31.5 in) long and 2โ25 mm (0.079โ0.984 in) wide, with a sheath that ranges from rounded to keeled. The inflorescence of this species is longer than its leaves. The individual flowers are pale blue, white, or greenish, well spaced apart from one another, and each grows on a pedicel 7โ16 mm (0.28โ0.63 in) long. There are three outer tepals 6โ10 mm (0.24โ0.39 in) long, and inner tepals 5.5โ9 mm (0.22โ0.35 in) long; every tepal has five veins. The stamens have filament swellings 1โ2.3 mm (0.039โ0.091 in) long, and yellow anthers. Flowering takes place in spring and summer, and the fruit produced is a pale blue berry 3โ7 mm (0.12โ0.28 in) long. This species, commonly called blueberry lily, is widespread and common in non-arid regions of Australia, including the Kimberley region, eastern and southern Australia, and northern Tasmania.
