About Dianella brevicaulis (Ostenf.) G.W.Carr & P.F.Horsfall
Dianella brevicaulis, commonly called the coast flax-lily, is a tufted, rhizomatous perennial herb with fibrous roots and blue-purple flowers. Its long leaves grow into a soft green tussock that hides the plant’s flowering stems. This species reaches a maximum height of 0.5 meters, prefers sandy soils, and occurs quite far inland. It is native to southern Australia, where it is most often found in coastal and subcoastal habitats, as well as sandy inland ranges.
