About Diachrysia aereoides Grote, 1864

Diachrysia aereoides, commonly called the dark-spotted looper or lined copper looper, is a moth species that belongs to the Noctuidae family. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1864. It is native to North America, where its range extends from Newfoundland in the east westward to northern California. The southernmost limit of its known distribution is within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The wingspan of adult Diachrysia aereoides measures between 28 and 40 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from June to July. This species produces one new generation each year. The larvae are thought to be general feeders that consume a variety of herbaceous and woody plants. Feeding has specifically been recorded on species from the plant families Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, and Rosaceae.
