About Desmia funeralis Hübner

Desmia funeralis, commonly called the grape leaffolder, is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. Its distribution ranges from the southern United States west to California, extending north into the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. Adult individuals have a wingspan between 21 and 28 mm. When viewed from above, Desmia funeralis looks identical to the related species Desmia maculalis. Adult moths are active between May and September. This is a day-flying moth species. It produces two to three generations each year. The larvae of Desmia funeralis feed on plants from the genera Vitis, as well as the species Cercis canadensis and Oenothera. In the United States, this species is classified as a minor pest of grapes.
