About Dermolepida albohirtum (Waterhouse, 1875)

Dermolepida albohirtum, commonly called the cane beetle, is a beetle species native to Australia. It is classified as a pest of sugarcane. Adult cane beetles feed on sugarcane leaves, but the larvae cause far greater damage. Larvae hatch underground and feed on sugarcane roots, which either kills the plant or stops it from growing properly. This beetle species is also found in the Philippines, where the local name for it is salagubang.
