About Denticucullus pygmina Haworth, 1809

Denticucullus pygmina Haworth, 1809 has a wingspan of 23–29 mm. For the typical form, forewings are rosy red or bright brick red with no markings; hindwings are pale grey, and the abdomen is whitish with a rosy anal segment. Males of this form are dull pink, with broadly dark grey costa and all veins, and sometimes show a faint trace of a dark outer line of dots; their hindwings are darker grey. No individual of either sex has any yellow or fulvous tint in this typical form. The form fulva Hbn. is fulvous rufous, with dark veins and a dark outer line of spots, and the median vein is particularly dark. The form ab. ochracea Tutt is yellow ochreous with no red tints; its outer line of dots is visible, and the median vein and other veins toward the termen are often dark. The form ab. punicea Tutt is a paler, greyer, less fulvous variant of fulva. The form pallida Stph. is pale ochreous or bone-colored, with dark grey costa and veins, and usually has a dark shade running below the median vein. This form occurs in two sizes, and the larger size may possibly be the ab. neurica Stph. variant. The form ab. transversa Stgr. is distinguished by having complete inner and outer lines that are fully marked across the forewing, which is dark grey in this variant.
