Dendrelaphis girii is a species of Dendrelaphis distinguished by the following combination of characteristics: two loreal scales on each side of the head; 15 dorsal scale rows at midbody; enlarged vertebral scales; 166 to 173 ventrals; 140 to 147 subcaudals; 8 to 9 supralabials, with 2 supralabials bordering the eye; 6 to 8 temporal scales; a long sublabial that touches 2 to 5 infralabials; 1 to 3 gular rows; a divided anal shield; a relative tail-length of 0.36 to 0.37; a black postocular stripe that covers less than a quarter of the temporal region and barely extends onto the neck; and an absent or only rudimentarily present pale ventrolateral line.
