About Deloyala guttata (Olivier, 1790)
Deloyala guttata, commonly known as the mottled tortoise beetle, is a species of tortoise beetle that belongs to the leaf beetle family Chrysomelidae. This species can be found in the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and South America. The larvae of Deloyala guttata carry shields constructed from cast exuviae and frass on their abdomen. They lift this shield to cover their dorsum and protect themselves from predators.
