It has a widespread distribution across North America, with recorded occurrences in Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Ontario, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The forewings of this moth measure between 8.1 and 9 mm in length. The larvae of Decodes basiplagana feed on Quercus lobata.
