About Danthonia californica Bol.
Danthonia californica Bol. is an erect, clumping perennial bunch grass. Its stems reach a maximum height of nearly one meter, or three feet. The leaves are short, flat, and can be either hairy or hairless. Its inflorescence bears one or more spikelets, and each spikelet can hold up to eight florets. This grass grows best in moist locations, most commonly in thin forests and meadows. In the far western North American coastal prairies, its typical native grass associates are Festuca idahoensis, Deschampsia caespitosa, and Nassella pulchra.
