About Danaus affinis Fabricius, 1775

Danaus affinis, commonly known as the Malay tiger, mangrove tiger, or swamp tiger, is a species of butterfly that occurs in tropical Asia. It is classified in the danaine group (called "crows and tigers") of the brush-footed butterfly family. This species shows very high morphological variation across its range. The species' distribution extends from Thailand to the Philippines, and south through Indonesia to Melanesia and northeastern Australia. Across this range, there are at least around 30 recognized subspecies, and the total number of existing subspecies may be even higher. Its closest known relative is Danaus melanippus, the white tiger.
