About Damora sagana (Doubleday)

This species, previously referred to as Argynnis sagana, has a wingspan of approximately 50–60 millimetres (2.0–2.4 inches). It shows very little geographical variation across its range, but has prominent sexual dimorphism with clear differences between males and females. Males have orange-brown wings marked with black patterns, while females have dark brown or black wings with white bands. Because of this dramatic difference, individuals of different sexes are often misidentified as belonging to separate species. The caterpillars of this species are dark brown, with long yellowish thorn-like appendages. This species can be found in broadleaf or mixed open forests in China, Mongolia, southeastern Siberia, Korea, and Japan.
