About Dalea pulchra Gentry

Dalea pulchra Gentry, commonly known as Santa Catalina prairie clover or indigo bush, is a perennial shrub or subshrub. It belongs to the subfamily Faboideae in the pea family, Fabaceae. This species grows in the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico, specifically in the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora, and Chihuahua, within the Madrean sky islands region and associated nearby areas. One confirmed location where it can be found is Ironwood Forest National Monument in southern Arizona. It produces deep purple flowers, and as a shrub it reaches up to 1.2 meters (4 feet) in height. Its common name Santa Catalina prairie clover comes from the Santa Catalinas, the sky island mountain range located in southeastern Arizona.
