About Dahlia coccinea Cav.

Dahlia coccinea Cav. is a flowering plant species that belongs to Asteraceae, the daisy family. It is commonly called red dahlia, even though its flowers can appear in colors other than the most common red, including orange, and occasionally yellow. This species is native to Mexico, and has been grown in many other countries for a long time because of its showy blooms. Before the Spanish conquest, the Aztecs used the plant’s tubers as a source of food. This traditional use mostly disappeared after the conquest, and the tubers of this species are known to be highly nutritious.
