About Cytaea maoming Yu & Zhang, 2022
Cytaea maoming is a medium-sized jumping spider first published by Yu & Zhang in 2022. The male holotype of this species has a total body length of 4.33 mm. Its carapace is 2.30 mm long and 1.76 mm wide. The female paratype is slightly larger than the male, with a total body length of 4.64 mm, and a carapace that measures 2.37 mm long and 1.80 mm wide. This species can be differentiated from the closely related Cytaea oreophila by two distinct morphological characteristics. Male Cytaea maoming have a developed ventral protuberance on the palp tibia, which is not present in male C. oreophila. Female Cytaea maoming have a long, S-shaped copulatory duct, while C. oreophila females have a short, thick copulatory duct. The carapace of Cytaea maoming is dark gray, with a darker eye field, and is covered in white setae. Its abdomen is oval-shaped, with a gray-black dorsal surface. The legs vary in color from yellow to gray, and have both macrosetae and hairs. Cytaea maoming is currently only known to occur at its type locality in Guangdong Province, China.
