About Cyrba algerina (Lucas, 1846)

Cyrba algerina, commonly known as the Algerian jumping spider, is a species of jumping spider that belongs to the subfamily Spartaeinae. Adult females of this species reach a body length of 4.2 to 6 millimeters, while adult males grow to between 3.5 and 4 millimeters. It is the only member of the genus Cyrba that can be found in Europe. Ecologically, Cyrba algerina is araneophagic, meaning it typically feeds on other web-building spiders. However, if it fasts for a sufficiently long period of time, it will also eat insects, a practice known as entomophagy. The species has additionally been observed engaging in web-invading kleptoparasitism and oophagy.
