About Cypripedium fasciculatum Kellogg
Cypripedium fasciculatum Kellogg produces two pleated leaves that usually sit close to the ground, though some individuals have leaves elevated up to 15 cm (5.9 in) above ground level. Up to four flowers hang from a drooping stem; sometimes the flowers rest on the plant's own leaves or even directly on the ground. This orchid has green to purplish-brown petals and sepals. Its lip (pouch) is yellowish-green, marked with purple streaking near the opening. This species grows in the western United States, specifically recorded in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. It typically inhabits cool, open coniferous forests, most often in mountain regions.
