About Cyperus retrorsus Chapm.

Cyperus retrorsus Chapm., commonly known as pine barren flatsedge, is a species of flowering plant that belongs to the sedge family Cyperaceae. This species is primarily found in the Southeastern United States, where its range extends north to Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, and south to Tamaulipas, Mexico. Its natural habitat consists of dry sandy soils in open woodlands and thickets. Cyperus retrorsus is a tufted perennial that grows to approximately 50 centimeters in height. Its fruits reach maturity during the summer. It is closely related and similar in appearance to Cyperus echinatus, but can be distinguished from C. echinatus by its cylindrical inflorescence and shorter overall stature.
