About Cyornis turcosus Bruggemann, 1877
The Malaysian blue flycatcher, with the scientific name Cyornis turcosus Bruggemann, 1877, is a species of bird in the Muscicapidae family. Its upperparts are a brilliant blue, its throat and chest are pale orange, and its belly is white. Females are slightly paler than males, and have a whitish throat, while males have a blue throat; the two sexes are quite similar in all other features. Unlike many other blue flycatcher species, the Malaysian blue flycatcher has a fairly uniformly blue head, with no distinct bold lighter or darker patches. Its pale, limited orange plumage is also a useful feature for identifying this species. This is a lowland bird species. On Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula, it is restricted to undisturbed, secluded riverine forests, but it can be found in a range of both dry and wet forests on Borneo. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and it occurs in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei. This species is threatened by habitat loss. In Malaysia, the bird is commonly known as 'Burung Sambar Biru'.
