About Cylindropuntia wolfii (L.D.Benson) M.A.Baker
Cylindropuntia wolfii is an erect cactus that can reach a maximum height of close to 2 meters. It produces many narrow branches formed of woolly, yellowish-green, cylindrical segments. The surface of the segments is divided into wide tubercles, which bear many brownish spines that can grow up to 3 centimeters long. This cactus has flowers that are brownish purple on the outside and yellowish green in the center. Its fruit is bumpy, spiny, dry, and can measure up to 3 centimeters in length. Cylindropuntia wolfii is native to the Sonoran Desert, specifically occurring in the Colorado Desert of Southern California, United States, and in Baja California, Mexico. It grows in dry, rocky desert habitat.
