About Cyclamen repandum Sm.
Cyclamen repandum Sm. grows in rocky areas, shrubland, and woodland near the Mediterranean. Its natural range extends from southeastern France through Italy to Serbia, and it also occurs on Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. For plants in the C. repandum group, the tuber produces roots only from the center of its bottom surface. The leaves are dark green with a lighter arrowhead pattern, and are not speckled. The flowers are deep carmine-pink or white, and do not have a darker colored central 'nose'. They also lack the auricles that are present in the related species Cyclamen hederifolium. In cultivation, Cyclamen repandum is a deciduous plant with a UK hardiness rating of H4, meaning it is hardy through most of the UK and can withstand temperatures between −5 and −10 °C (23 to 14 °F). It requires partial shade, and can grow in chalk, clay, sand, or loam soil. It tolerates any soil pH, including acid, alkaline, and neutral. It reaches an ultimate height of 10 cm (3.9 in), and takes between 2 and 5 years to reach this full height. The subspecies Cyclamen repandum subsp. repandum, commonly called wavy-edged cyclamen, has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, a status that was confirmed in 2017.
