Cybosia mesomella (Linnaeus, 1758) has a wingspan of 25 to 33 millimeters. The base color of its forewings can be yellow or ivory gray, with yellow borders. The middle of each forewing has four small black dots, which is the source of this species' common name. The hindwings are gray, and sometimes have yellowish edges. Its thorax and abdomen are whitish, and covered in fine hairs. This species is distributed across most of Europe, excluding Spain. It is also found in the eastern Palearctic realm and the Near East. Cybosia mesomella prefers warm, moist, sunny environments. Its typical habitats include deciduous and mixed forests, heaths, moorland, damp grassland, fens, wet meadows, and open woodlands.
